Lindstrom India, a subsidiary of a global textile rental company, is making strides towards environmental responsibility by incorporating recycled plastic into its workwear collection. This initiative aligns with their commitment to science-based climate targets and emphasizes reducing their environmental impact.
The key element driving this change is the use of recycled polyester derived from post-consumer plastic bottles. This fabric, a blend of 65% recycled polyester and 35% cotton, offers several advantages. Firstly, it diverts plastic waste from landfills, contributing to a cleaner environment. Secondly, incorporating recycled materials reduces the need for virgin polyester production, which is known for its high energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Anisha Mukherjee, Head of Procurement & Sustainability Lead at Lindstrom India, highlights the primary benefit: "The fabric's reduced environmental impact lies in its use of recycled polyester. This not only conserves resources but also diminishes the need for virgin polyester production, which has a significant environmental footprint."
By embracing recycled materials, Lindstrom India is demonstrating its commitment to a sustainable future. This initiative sets a positive example for the textile industry and encourages responsible practices throughout the clothing life cycle.
