The court stated that industrial emissions contribute considerably to air pollution and that steps must be made to ensure compliance with emission standards. Furthermore, the court scolded public officials for not doing enough to oversee big infrastructure projects, highlighting the importance of a clean environment. Despite claims by officials, the court found flaws in meeting pollution control standards at project locations. The MPCB identified several sources of pollution in the MMR, including road dust, vehicle emissions, and industrial activity.

The court warned of shutting down public projects if required to battle air pollution and established a target AQI level of less than 50 for satisfactory air quality. A review of a joint 2021 report on air quality has been completed, and future steps will be considered. The court will meet on March 18, 2024, to discuss the case further.
