Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad announced that they are going to introduce the “No to plastic bags” campaign to curb the single-plastic use and make Alexandria free from plastic bags.
The initiative will be managed by the Environmental Affairs Agency and will work toward minimizing the use of plastic bags in public places such as beaches and replacing them with eco-friendly alternatives. The ministry has also planned to support plastic bag producers to manufacture eco-friendly and fully biodegradable alternatives by providing them with the required technology.
The campaign will be planned in short-term and long-term phases and the first phase will include intensive campaigns to spread awareness about the harmful impacts of plastic bags on the environment and human health.
