Addressing Climate Change in Kashmir: A Call for Cooperative Federalism

The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K), in collaboration with KAS India, the Centre of School, CRRiD, the Forum of Federations, and TISS, organised a notable two-day international conference. The conference, titled 'Navigating the Crisis of Climate Change in Kashmir and the Northern Himalayan Regions of India: The Role of Cooperative Federalism,' sought to address serious environmental issues.

Adrian Haack, Director of KAS India, kicked off the session, setting the tone for thought-provoking talks. Distinguished speakers, including Rupak Chattopadhyay, CEO and President of the Forum of Federations, and Professor Rekha Saxena of the University of Delhi, shed light on the complexity of climate change and highlighted the importance of cooperative federalism.

The conference included panel discussions, presentations, and expert perspectives on climate change. A highlight was the acknowledgment of NLCO Chairman Manzoor Wangnoo for his environmental accomplishments, particularly the 'Mission Ehsaas' to restore the Gilsar-Khushalsar urban lakes. Wangnoo praised stakeholders and the LG government, emphasizing the importance of working together to ensure environmental sustainability.
